For his Eagle Project, Colby and our scouts built trellises, a structure to provide shade, and set up a basketball hoop. They did this to assist the Tiger Mountain Foundation, which constructs community gardens in empty lots for the benefit of the community. Scouts met for two days in October 2023 to complete the project. It was an impressive amount of hard work.
Our scouts paddled canoes several miles to their campsite for this September 2023 outing up on the Mogollon Rim. Then they set up camp, swam, paddled some more, cooked dinner, and went to sleep. The outing required much advance planning and we had to borrow the canoes and learn how to use waterproof bags. Afterward, we paddled back across the reservoir, and returned home.
Our scouts hiked several miles into Fossil Creek Canyon in October 2023. They hiked two miles down before setting up camp, swimming in the creek, and cooking dinner for the night. The next day, they packed up their bags and returned home.
Every Scout who attended summer camp this year had an amazing Summer Camp Experience. This year we occupied campsites 18 & 19. The new scouts participated in brown sea island, providing them with all the skills tehy will need for their future scouting. Older scouts got to participate in merit badge classes. As a troop, Scouts took hikes, participated in the polar bear plunge, and went to the trading post. I think we can all agree we appreciated how much better the food was this year. Both troops won Big G Gold this year!!!
