Clayton Edwards Eagle Project

On Saturday, December 16 Clayton Edwards had his Eagle Scout Project at the U.S. Veteran's facility in Phoenix. Seven Troop 323 Scouts joined with Clayten and some adults to paint faded parking lines, a loading zone and handicap symbols. At the end of the project, the paint-splattered scouts got to enjoy pizza and look over a job well done. Way to go, Clayton!

Bike Outing
Dec 9-10, 2017

Troop 323 Scouts and adults jumped on their mountain bikes for the Annual Bike Outing, Dec 9-10 at the McDowell Mountain Preserve. After the first 8 miles, we took a lunch break at Balancing Rock. Most of the scouts took on the entire route, putting over 22 miles on their bikes through the desert. Fortunately, no scouts or cacti were harmed on this outing. That night we were joined by Cub Scouts from Pack 323. We made delicious Dutch oven meals with Mrs. Perdue and had a fire building competition. Everyone had a great time on this favorite Troop Outing!

Jonathan Carver - Troop 323 newest Eagle

Sycamore Reservoir
Nov 18, 2017

On November 18, 2017, nine scouts and six adults traveled to Tucson, Arizona to hike to Sycamore Reservoir. After a five mile hike and passing through a World War II Japanese internment camp, the Scouts reached the reservoir. To retrieve water, we needed to throw bags with rope attached down a 75 foot dam and pull them back up. Our filters were needed to clear up the brown water. When night drew closer, we built a fire to cook our meals and keep warm. In the morning, the scouts encountered a large spider on their way back to the cars. It was a great trip.

All Saints Church Cleanup

Troop 323 just completed our anual church cleanup. Every fall and spring we give back to All Saints' Lutheran Church by doing a service project for them. This time we uprooted many plants and planted twenty new ones. It was hard work but worth it to show our appreciation for the church and make it even more beautiful.

Humphrey's Peak Hike
Sept 15-17, 2017

On our last outing, Troop 323 hiked Mount Humphries, the tallest mountain in Arizona. Out of the 15 scouts on the outing 8 summiteers and everyone else got to the saddle. This was a fantastic achievement considering the difficulty of high altitude hiking. The scouts did a great job and were eager to do it again.

Eagle Project - Removing and replacing concrete walkways
September 9, 2017

On September 9th, Trevin Perdue led the troop in removing and replacing concrete walkways at St. Mark Lutheran Church. A variety of tools were used and all of the doors on the west side of the building now open. The troop worked very hard and the church greatly appreciated the Troop's work.

Yearly Planning Meeting
August 19-20, 2017

On August 19th, the troop’s Patrol Leaders Council (PLC), Patrol Advisors, and other troop adult leaders met at Bumblebee Ranch to plan the outings and troop meetings for 2018. This takes a lot of time and discussion to make the troop's activities run smoothly over the next year.

Summer Camp 2017

Camp Geronimo Summer Camp

Troop 323 survived another annual outing to camp Geronimo this summer. Merit badge requirements were fulfilled, food was eaten, and new and old scouts got to bathe in the brisk waters of East Weber.

Nate Garner - Troop 323 newest Eagle

Eagle Project - Building tables for Ben Avery Shooting Range
April 9 & May 14, 2017

Nate Garner led the Scouts in building and painting tables for Ben Avery shooting range. It took two days and hard work but Ben Avery will have great new tables!

West Clear Creek
April 28-29, 2017

On April 28-29 the new Rattlesnake Patrol joined Troop 323 on their 1st backpacking outing to West Clear Creek near Camp Verde, AZ. The hike involved 3 chilly water crossings and a few scouts and adults took unplanned dips in the creek. It was a great outing and our newest scouts proved they were ready for the challenge.

Geronimo Big "G" Tent Repair

Fixing the tents we use at Geronimo is one of the requirements for the Big "G" award at Geronimo. Troop 323 has a proud history of getting Big "G" Gold award at camp; we want to continue that tradition!

Scouts, please bring:
1) Class B shirt
2) Sunscreen, Hat
3) Waterbottle or camelback
4) Sunglasses (optional)

Please bring the following tools if you have them:
1) Push brooms to sweep off basketball court to have a clean surface to work on
2) Scissors capable of cutting medium-weight tent canvas

Eagle Project - Transplanting Native Cacti
April 1, 2017

On April 1st, Sebastian Lebert lead the Troop in transplanting native cacti for the Tonto National Forest Service. Scouts used shovels, picks, and thick leather gloves to remove and replant the cacti. The weather was awesome and the Scouts had a great time.

Spring Church Cleanup

March 25, 2017

Troop 323 participated in the semi-annual church clean up at All Saints Lutheran on March 25. Scouts from every patrol (Gorfs, Falcons, Phoenix, Trojans) and new Scouts from Pack 323 joined together for 3 hours to rake, trim, prune, clear a garden and pull weeds. It was great opportunity for our Troop to give back to All Saints Lutheran for their sponsorship.

Crossover at Bumblebee Ranch
March 18-19, 2017

We just has our Crossover Outing. The Cub Scouts from Pack 323 joined our troop on this outing. We taught them needed skills and had them earn some rank advancement requirements. Then we had the ceremony and anual fire work bonfire. It was very fun and the new scouts show much potential.

Eagle Project - Renovating St. Mark Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall
March 4, 2017

On March 4th, Logan Steffensen lead the Troop in replacing door panels and painting areas of the St. Mark Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall. Older Scouts were given information about tool safety and were shown how to properly replace exterior panels. Other Scouts and parents applied several coars of paint to cabinets, doors, and trim in the Fellowship Hall.

Ski Outing
Feb. 24-26, 2017

This past weekend Troop 323 went on our anual snow outing. On Friday night we drove up and staued at the Navajo Army National Guard Base in Bellemont. The next morning we left for Snow Bowl. We went skiing for a few hours then ate lunch. After lunch we hit the slopes for a few more hours. After skiing we went to NAU and we ate dinner. After we finished we went back to the barracks and everyone passed out. Overall, it was a wonderful trip.

Scouting For Food
Feb. 2, 2017

During scouting for food we put out flyers asking people to donate canned food through BSA. A dew days later we collected all the food. It was a great turnout and it will help many people in need.

Merit Badge Roundup
Jan. 28 & Feb. 11, 2017

We completed the Merit Badge Roundup. We earned three merit badges by going to 2 four hour sessions in the course of 2 weeks. In each class we learned about the merit badge and why it's useful in our daily lives. After 2 weeks we found ourselves with 3 new merit badges!!!

Greenway Cleanup
Service Project

Every month a different patrol cleans up Greenway Parkway from 7th Avenue to 19th Avenue. We pick up trash and make sure that it is clean.
