October 2020 – Mt. Humphreys summit

It’s a month later than we historically have attempted summiting Arizona’s largest mountain and it was colder too. October temps are 10-20º colder than we typically see in September and it was apparent as everyone was outfitted in poof jackets hats and gloves. The cooler weather did help allow us to carry less water than we have in the past and still remain well hydrated. Congratulations to this year’s group of submitters.

Oct Practice Hike

With Mount Humphreys just a few weeks away the Troops has been busy getting ready for this difficult adventure by hiking the nearby north mountain area. Lots of sun on this hike that had a good turnout in anticipation of what’s to come later in the month.

September 2020 – Lynx Lake Day Hike

After 6 months of unanticipated time off from scouting, we find ourselves getting back into the Scouting grove with a day trip to Prescott AZ to do a 5-mile hike around the Lynx Lake area. Turnout for this hike was very good as many have been cooped up inside for the past 6 months. The troop did a great job practicing social distancing and having a good time as well. The temperature was a little warm still this time of year but the trail provided plenty of shade along the way. The event was a perfect step towards getting back to normal. Thanks to all the scouts and adults that made this happen.

February Ski Outing 2020

This year’s ski outing was super fun and super cold. The slopes were white with fresh powder and everyone enjoyed the slopes. Thanks to the Army resave base for hosting us again, and thanks to all the adults that helped transport scouts. Thanks to Mrs. Steffenson for once again planning this parental favorite.

Ian Marcons Eagle Project Feb 2020

On Feb 15 the troop got out on trail 306 to help Ian and the city of Phoenix perform some much-needed trail maintenance along the section of trail downhill from the old cloud nine restaurant site. The event was well organized and the weather was perfect for getting out on the trail and moving rock rubble and dirt.
